Love Music Hate Racism A mother of all throat infections put's a throwback on his back !! The band were absolutely gutted to have to pull out of Saturdays LMHR festival at the last moment, due to Smiley contracting a severe throat infection, and for once he had nothing to say!!! The rest of us will be going to support the cause and hope to see you all there. What a party at The Lower Bell It's a good job the band arrived first as every square inch was occupied, even the Bongo's had to be hoisted up through the window as the happy Throwbackers were already spilling out through all doors in eager anticipation!!! As the show got rolling the rammed revellers swelled outside and partied in the warm summer atmosphere outside as well as inside - what a fabulous audience!!! By the second part of the show the bobbing sea of heads rocked with the Band and a fun night was had by all. The swaying venue was still full at the encore around midnight. Our very Special thanks to all the staff at The Lower Bell Lockhart and the Throwbacks digging for musical treasure on The Island! After a break from gigging of a couple of months, the Throw’s returned to the windswept, holiday Isle of Sheppey to a new venue for them: the Beach Hotel at Minster. Made really welcome by hosts, Stuart and Jeanette, the band battled against the elements to unload and set up, whilst the pub filled with locals and loyal supporters, and a lively and friendly atmosphere grew. With Roger Humphreys in charge of sound, things were set to run smoothly in the sound department with plenty of time to spare! When the pub was bursting, the boys let rip with Rory Gallagher’s “Messin’ with The Kid”, and the place rocked for a tight and energetic first half, featuring Sheppey boy Lockhart at his vocal best (perhaps as he was not wearing The Thong of Destiny?). Though not packed with “Musos”,the crowd were appreciative and were eager for the return of the band who restarted with afavourite of theirs, Steve Winwood’s “Can’t find My Way Home” (a possible anthem for many of our supporters at the end of a show!). The second half proved to be a looser, but entertaining set, with guest appearances by one or two local talents adding their influence to the band’s varied range of songs, with Kings of Leon’s “Sex is on Fire” particularly pleasing the younger element in the crowd. All in all, a gig greatly enjoyed by the band, and – from many comments later – worth braving the BankHoliday weather for the customers who packed this great venue. Ham Hill Rocks Saturday 13th Feb 10 What a night!! Ham Hill was rocking last night!! Throwbacks initiation, second tune in - a 45 minute break for Bingo!!! 9.45 on with the show to a fantastic, mixed full house of Throwbackers & Snodlanders. A terrific welcoming and warm crowd of all ages and to our surprise, lapping up the rock tunes conveyed via a 4k rig that had the same impact a hundred yards away down at the bar, as it did up front, thanks to our ole friend Roger Humphries and his sound system. But the only thing left for me to say, to save you from my would be ongoing ramblings, is that for those of you that couldn't make it to the show last night, it really was a very funny and enjoyable evening. Our very Special thanks go to our fantastic hosts down at Ham Hill, Phil and Carol . A Rocking night in Whitstable Saturday 16th Jan 10 The Coach & Horses rocked last night with the sound of the Throwbacks. What a fabulous pub with a fantastic atmosphere, “intimate cosy worm and very very welcoming. The usual full house along with dancers and yet only 6 regular throw-backers to be seen!. I think the band would agree that so far, not only was it the best gig of 2010, but With the exception of their album launch at "The Live Room" it was also the most enjoyable show of 2009. So keep your eyes on the gig list for our return show back at The Coach around July 2010. Apologies for the delay updating news photos show date’s etc, a new high speck computer is in the pipeline we speak, or as I type n you read. Our very Special thanks go to our fabulous host and Landlady at The Coach & Horses Jenny. The Live Room Sunday 06th Dec 09 What a great night at the Live Room Last night we had a ball as always, thanks to you lot. Thank you all so much for braving the elements and allowing us the privlige of entertaining another full house of people who always make our shows so much fun. The Live Room is always such a pleseure to play and we wish it every success for the New Year and look forward to being back there again in April 2010. We would also like to thank our support band & friends The Learning Curve who you can also catch back at The Live Room in the New year. Check out the photos on the clips & pics page. Special thanks to our fabulous hosts down at The Live Room Kevin and Sharon The Old House at Home Saturday 17th Oct 09 We only went and forgot the chip for the camera last night! but we did manage to get half a dozen photo's thanks to Penny sussing that it has a small internal memory, "result". So give me an hour and they should be up for all to see. It was a fun night as always with dancers gracing us with their pre club gyrations leaving our smiley almost lyric less!! "Unheard of" Shame about the one who ran off with one of our cd's though. Cheers honey we figure it was a fair trade!! We had a ball Special thanks to our fab host Beverley and staff, See you next year Album launch at "The Live Room" Saturday 26th Sept 09 It was an awesome double whammy - album launch of "off the peg" in the live room Gillingham last night, as well as a fantastic turn out by all you guys - probably the best so far!!! We had guest vocalist the fabulous Sue and local legend Mr Jim Riley on harp, the perfect ingredients for a wicked show, and that's exactly what we had!!! Special thanks to our ole friend Linda Warwick who went out for a Saturday night drink with friends and ended up with the unexpected role of compare just ten minutes before the show! And also a big thank you to all you Throwbackers for your support of our debut album "Off the Peg" - Enjoy!!! And finally a very warm welcome to our fabulous new hosts Kevin & Sharon at the Plough & Chequers . Thanks to You Here at last our 14 track debut album "off the peg". And to celebrate, the band are going to have an album launch in "The Live Room" at the Plough and Chequers Gillingham ME7 2TY on Saturday 26th Sept and would love to see you all there to celebrate with us. This album comes almost one year after the band's debut gig at the Royal Oak on the 24th Oct 08. Over this last year the band have been in the fortunate position of being offered dates in and around Kent as a direct result of all your support, whether it's been at a wet cold and windy winter show at The Old House at Home or a spring drive to The Elms in Worthing Sussex you were there with us. Keep Music Live Click on the link below for directions to the album launch The Plough n Chequers The Royal Oak Saturday 26th Aug 09 Sorry for any inconvenience but this event is cancelled Kevin & Tina say goodbye to the royal oak on Wednesday 23rd Sept to move to their new 1000 capacity venue in Sydenham south london. They have asked us to play their farewell get-together a few days before on "Sat 19th". - Lookforward to seeing you all there. That's gotta be one for the diary! The show Thurs, 20th Aug at the Eagle Monday 10th Aug 09 Has been Canceled due to Lockhart the lunatic working away only being able to get back at weekends untill mid to end of Sept! Sorry guy's but you can alway's give him a bit of stick on the Your bit Page! Look forward to Seeing you all on Sat 19th Sept @ The Royal Oak Debut album on its way Monday 26th July 09 After lots of juggling the throwbacks finally managed to get in the studio for a couple of days at the weekend to lay down a dozen tracks for their debut album "OFF THE PEG" due out mid November It’s taken nearly 7 months of hard work and planning to get this lot in the studio! And it seems no matter what they do or how well it’s planned there is always a drama’ so why should this occasion be any different! The day before the guys were due in the studio and three days after two confirmation calls to the engineer, down came the call to say ‘sorry due to unforeseen circumstances your sound tech will be away and won’t be able to make your recording session AHhhhhhhhhhhg Just when the insanity was boiling up in my head the voice on the other end of the phone said’ but we have managed to get “Al Scott “who has kindly agreed to engineer the session for you! Bloody hell "Al Scott" what a result. Al has a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked at redwood studios owned by Michael Palin. Worked on Monty Pythons comedy sketch and 'Every Sperm Is Sacred film score to a musical with Tim Rice. Al has also won several awards for his work on radio and tv commercials as well as working with bands like the levellers, on their levelling the land album as well as the 'Oysterband and Ray Coopers new solo album but to mention a few.. As I have said before - “Alls well that ends well” One show a month Due to other commitments the Throwbacks will now only be able to except one booking pr month. Rally weekend at the Sondes The show time changes from 14:00 to 19:00 and almost by magic so did the rain!! Spot on cue along with the intro down it came. Not a good weekend for the weather. Funny ole lot “ Couldn’t look more disinterested if you tried” Yet at the end of the show when we’re packing away ‘’ tap tap” on the ole shoulder, bloody good band mate have ya got a card! Well knock me down with a feather 5 minutes later scuse me mate who do I speak to bout booking the band, and then another, how much would ya charge to come play at our club, Well what a lesson that was. It just goes to show ya things are not always just as they seem! Special thanks to our hosts at The Sondes Arms Trevor and Claire and the fab hot food wagon for my scrumptious egg burger. Bikers Rally this weekend 17th -19th July Don't forget this is a two day event starting with a Band on Friday evening and camping on both Friday and Saturday nights. The Throwbacks are now 19:00 Saturday in the garden So you can come and listen to some great sounds, have a drink and not worry about having to drive home. ALL this for £1...... See ya there The Sondes Arms ME13 9PL The Peppercorn Frenzy 10th July 09 Never seen so many people in a tent!! Thought I was at a Rave! Well I just don’t know how it can be topped, all I know is it’s gonna be a hard act to follow. Everyone was out to have a good time, and they most certainly did, from the young to the not so young. At one time I saw a little fella of no more than about four playing air guitar with legs astride - looked like a miniature Rick Parfit and later to hear a few hundred voices all singing along with “your sex is on fire” was awesome. Could have gone on all night but by 12.30 played the last tune of the evening to a crowd that seemed to have more energy then Lynford Christy. But all good things come to an end, but the good news is we have been asked to play again next year but on the Saturday rather than Friday, “ Result” Our special thanks to our hosts Jeff, Jim and all the gang at the V.W club and of course Peppercorn farm who made it all possible, but most of all to you lot for being the best audience ever!. Spectacular day at Command House River Side 5th July 09 There isn’t much to say about yesterday at the river side music day. Except everyone looked and acted like they was having a nice time! Got off to a bit of a slow start mostly because of hang over nursing from the day before!! First band kicked off at 15:00 rather then 14:00 but buy 16:00 all was in good swing, a day of good live music, sunshine beer and a fabulous audience. Just check out the photo gallery. Our special thanks go to Jay for all his hard work and for doing such a brill job with the sound, and Jas the landlord for the use of the Command House stage and power. Hot hot & wet afternoon at The Old House at Home 27th June 09 What a gig! Arrived at the Old House in the blistering heat at 11am. Not a rain cloud in site, just to find Chris sweeping and prettying up the garden ready for the fun to start around 14:00’ “And start it did” Great kick-off, band and PA sounding wicked. Lockhart gracing us all with his unmistakably oiled vocals and quick-witted one-liners. A fabulous crowd of people along with the usual suspects of hardened throwbackers. A very hot & sticky charcoaled up Chris behind the pubs newly built garden BBQ that’s now showing signs of life with a few puffs of fresh smoke. The sun glistening on the river, ships sailing by, blue skies and fluffy white clouds – what a backdrop as the band swung into the first few tunes – Then wham! It was like someone had picked up the river and dropped it on the band! While the loyal audience scattered for cover a drenched gang of Throwbacks and Throwbackesses wrestled with rolls of bin liners and pub parasols to save the day. After picking out a few sea bass and the odd shrimp from the drum kit and Mackie sound system the sun reappeared as fast as it had disappeared and in the heat a steaming bunch of Throwbacks reassembled on stage to carry on where they left off. Along with a smiley bunch of happy revellers and passers by who stopped to see what all the fun was, it was a matter of all’s well that ends well (one of the most exciting shows to date). Our special thanks to our fab host Beverley and staff especially Chris at The Old House at Home Fabulous Fathers day at the Royal Oak It couldn't have been better' a Fathers day BBQ with two live bands! - Well it could if we had remembered to take the break off the mixing desk so that the PA would work!!! arrr' Butthen again we are the "throwbacks" Oops!! . Other than that little hiccup we had loads of fun sun and beer with a superb BBQ, and a garden full of fantastically friendly and appreciative mums dads and kids all having a good time. Check out the photo's on the pics & clips page. You guy's that couldn't make it ' you missed out on one of those special occasions ya just cant plan' it just happens. Anyway we would like to give a big thank you to our ole friends the Learning Curve' who performed a fabulous two hour set of great tunes " Well done guy's". And a big thank you to our special hosts Kevin and Tina who made it all possible ** The Royal Oak Fathers day BBQ - Two band special ** As Summer finally seems to have arrived, we have a fathers day BBQ Double Header for you as music in the garden returns at THE ROYAL OAK - New Ash Green TN15 7HX. Feel free to add your comments on our "your say" page Our special thanks to our fab hosts at The Eagle Tavern - Nigel and Sandra, The Sondes Arms 25th April 09 Well what a welcome from Selling! Smashing pub and a fantasticaly lively crowd. One minute it was 9.15 and the next it was 12.15, blimey wasn't we meant to finish at 11.00 !! I think that say's it all. I got in to bed at 3am smiling and still grinning today. (check out the photo gallery on the clips page). Bet there are some tired feet and thick heads this morning ! Just wanna thank you all in Selling and those who travelled for making the Throwbacks first gig at the Sondes so enjoyable. Cant wait to see you all at the Sondes next time at the Bikers summer rally on July 18th. Special thanks to our fabulous hosts Trevor and Claire The Royal Oak 13th March 09 Well I think the people of New Ash Green should give themselves a big round of applause, what a great bunch, you guys certainly know how to enjoy a night out. I think we managed to capture the fantastically friendly and fun atmosphere on film (check out the photo gallery on the clips page). I bet there are some hangovers going on this morning!!I just wanna thank you all for coming to the show at the Royal Oak and making it all so enjoyable, that's what makes it all so worthwhile. See you all next time. Special thanks to our fabulous hosts Kevin and Tina The Elms Worthing 21st Feb 09 After a disastrous build up to the show where the drummer fractured his thumb, the singer contracted a throat/chest infection and was put on steroids!, then the night before the show Bryn, one of our guitarists, slammed his index finger on his guitar fretting hand in his car door and spent the night with his pinkie stuck in a bag of frozen peas! Not to be left out Gaza, our other guitarist, chomped the side of his finger with a pair of pliers, also on his left fretting hand! Finally, just as a matter of course Dave got stuck in heavy traffic jams on route! But the show went on! The band was cooking, the audience were fantastic and once warmed up were dancing and singing having a goodtime. The band played through until 11.45pm. Another successful night had by all and a smashing introduction for The Throwbacks into west Sussex! So a huge thanks to all our new friends in Worthing who we lookforward to seeing again soon at shows in and around Kent and Sussex. Could have been a broken Thumb 16th Feb 09 Well it was nearly all over before it even begun!! Last Wednesday after a short rehearsal Phill went out to get stand cases from the car and “wallop! Stepping out from the gate in the darkness onto the slippery slope to his fat *@rse* our drummer saved his sticks but not his pride & may have broken his thumb! The offending digit rapidly ballooned to what looked like four times the size & we all thought that’s the end of the show for the Elms on Friday! But 4 days, a box of painkillers and he’s lost count how many anti-inflammatory's later, guess what - it’s now down to only double the size with a really attractive purple & black bruise and a glowing yellow hue!!. But with his defiantly determined attitude he is adamant the show will go on. So he would just like to express his apologies in advance for what may be some rather flaky stick work, but just remember any strange ugly mug pulling isn’t the usual drummers delight but just sheer bloody pain. The Bands first show at The Old House At Home. 18th Jan 09 At the risk of seeming like I'm blowing the Band's own trumpet I have to say that going on our audience comments and the great vibe last night, another fantastic night was enjoyed by all. Even though I seem to bang on saying the same ole thing every time after a show, and anyone reading this for the first time must think, bloody el mate has the record got stuck, The Old House At Home was really rockin and maybe we ought to have a comments page where you guy's can say what you think? Mmmm food for thought! But anyway all I can say is , last night must have been the best so far. If I hadn't seen it for myself I would never believe it possible to fit so many people into three bars of a pub, especially in the middle of a credit crunch where things are tight for so many of us and taking into account the short notice of our gig - BUT what a FANTABULOUS night it was! Never mind the credit crunch, the rain and the wind, you lot certainly know how to have a good time and it's so contagious the band can only aspire to such a terrific atmosphere and have a ball with such a great crowd of people - of course not forgetting our brilliant host Beverley and staff at The Old House At Home - THANK YOU. Oh and just to add to the euphoria the ole boy on drums just became a grandad again for the sixth time at 7.45 this morning "Fantastic". Our special thanks to our fab host Beverley at The Old House at Home NEW NOISE LIMITERS LEGISLATION 13th Jan 09 It has been brought to our attention that new noise legislation is about to be introduced, that is likely to dramatically impact live music in the UK. Noise limiters have been around for many years. In all cases except acoustic music this has resulted in the cessation or severe restriction of live music. As an example - The sound pressure at a Royal Philharmonic Orchestra concert can be more than some rock bands and is enough to turn the electricity off. How are their electronic devices going to cope. By cheating like everyone else? The regulation of these limiters will come under the control of local councils who are stretched enough trying to manage the governments draconian laws brought into place to destroy the pub and leisure industry.Enough is enough. There are enough musicians and music lovers to remove this government from their power. Pity we can't do it by clapping loud enough to cut them off. Please sign the petition! The government wish to consider it a legal requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone applying or re-applying for an entertainment license must have a noise control device fitted to the venue. This will be the final NAIL for ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which these devices CUT us off is Extremely low and damaging to musician’s equipment. Government deny claims' they plan to limit sound levels at UK gigs We've all been had!! The Old House at Home 29th Dec 08 Determined the show must go on! Without much hope and at short notice, I decided to search Google desperately looking for a replacement venue for the 10th / 17th of January show , when randomly up popped "The Old House at Home" in Queenborough, along with a phone number. Without a second thought I dialled the number and found myself talking to a lovely lady called Beverley, who introduced herself as the landlady. Do you have live music I asked, yes came the reply, "Result". On explaining our plight with The Tudor Inn show, I couldn't believe our luck" not only had Beverley heard of Lockhart and The Throwbacks, She knew Lockhart's Mummy, Hubby Des and many of their family and friends, instantley understanding that meant a great night to be had by all and a full house, Beverley offered to be our host and have the show at The Old House at Home, and save the day. What a loverly lady, we can't wait The Tudor Inn News flash 29th Dec 08 On phoning Mike Nichols the landlord of the" Tudor Inn Sheerness high street" at “9.45am today” with a view of moving our Gig date one week, from Saturday 10th of January to Saturday 17th January to allow our "Asian flue ridden singer" an extra week to recover and rest his voice, and allow enough time to let you all know via our web site, local papers and gig guides, I was surprised to find Mike Nichols was no longer the Landlord!! And in his place is new landlord Ian Marlow. After a brief chat. According to Ian, he has no knowledge of the Throwbacks booking for Sat 10th January and says he doesn’t have the authority to honour the booking, although he says it is in the pub diary ? But did say he would make some phone calls to try and keep the booking for the 17th, and that he would definitely beyond any doubt call me back later today and let me know the outcome either way! No call from Mr Ian Marlow as yet? ( No surprise there! ) So it seems that there was no intention on the Tudor Inn's part to advise us via text, phone or e-mail of any cancellation!! So the Throwbacks along with some of you guy’s who travel miles to our shows, would have cut the day short loaded loads of equipment, driven a 50mile round trip, possibly in the cold and rain and certainly in the dark with a band convoy of 5 plus cars!!! Gone along to fill up the Tudor Inn with good music and a fabulous crowd of people! Just to be told on our arrival's sorry there aint no band plying ere tonight!!. "Nice" We would just like to thank our hosts Mike Nichols and Ian Marlow, at "The Tudor Inn Sheerness" and to wish them all the best with a very merry and prosperous new year. Happy Birthday 8th Dec 08 Happy Birthday to Pete our sound man who is 33 today. Well done Pete great job have a good one . The Hop & Vine 6th Dec 08 After a shaky behind the scenes start where the powers that be wanted to cancel the show!!, "But with some stiff negotiations and hard talking",, The show went ahead!!. and boy wasit worth it!! There was once again another fantastic turn out from you guy's and dancers alike " superb" . not to mention Bryn's family who had traveled all the way up from Wales especially for the show!! and the small gang at the bar down from north London. A good time made easy. And a big thank you to our host at the Hop & Vine, Carlton. "We forgive ya" The Eagle Rocks 4th Dec 08 What a great venue,,, For all you bands out there, Who haven't played the Eagle Tavern in Rochester yet ? Get ya demos in now. I defy You to find a more responsive audience in a pub with such a magnificently friendly atmosphere anywhere else in Rochester! I didn't see one glum face in what must of been over a hundred, only a crowd of delightful people haveing a good time. And even more refreshing was looking out at you lot and seeing a range of people from about eighteen to sixty, "Brilliant" Well, it done it for us!! we had a wicked time. Cheer's Folks See ya all next time. Our special thanks to our fab hosts at The Eagle Tavern - Nigel and Sandra, Not to be missed Next Thursday 11th Dec at The Eagle Tavern. A fabulously talented young outfit Ben Jones and The Lovedays. Be there, or you'll miss a great show!. Fab night at the Cricket Club 22nd Nov 08 Well that was great fun, and so cosy!! but I must say most of all , what a lovely bunch of people, it was an absolute pleasure. And Dave, "Happy Birthday" Shame, but I was so looking forward to the outlaws performance!! Another Spectacular turn out at the Good Intent on Saturday 1st Nov 08 It was raining, windy dark and cold, in other words bloody miserable when I arrived at the GI on Saturday evening at around 6.30 I thought to myself that's it, looks like we're playing to the bar staff tonight, and wondered if it was even worth setting up!!! But by 8.45, thanks to you lot, there was barely enough room to close the pub door - "result" what a night Not only were you a fantastic audience, some of you can really dance ... groovy baby! Well I can only say, if Lockhart and The Throwbacks have an audience like you lot at all their shows in the future, this band are in for an amazing time,, so well done and thanks to you all for battling against the elements, we had a GAS. Check out flickr on home page A big thank you to our hosts at The Good Intent Karen and Dale. Great vibes at The Royal Oak 24th Oct 08 We had a great gig last night at the Royal Oak, "Great Landlord ,Great Landlady, Great Audiance, Great pub", What more can a band ask for!!! "We had a blast". And I must say to the dude who danced up front for 2 hours solid, from the first note - to our last ! "Ja wanna be our Bez" ? A special thanks to our hosts Kevin & Tina, who not only had our play area cleared & ready, also had our parking reserved. " Luxury" cant wait for the next one! A good time made easy. Album The band are hoping to get into the studio in the new year for an album launch around Sept 09 E-mail Phill via our contact page
